ASTM/ASME 446 Stainless Steel Pipes & Tubes are super-ferritic (UNS S44600) products conforming to ASTM A268 standards, featuring a high-purity composition with 23-27% chromium and 0.75-1.5% molybdenum for exceptional oxidation and chloride corrosion resistance. This premium ferritic grade delivers superior scaling resistance up to 1095°C (2000°F) and outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride/sulfide environments, outperforming many austenitic grades. The alloy's ultra-low carbon (<0.020%) and nitrogen content, combined with titanium stabilization, ensures optimal weldability and intergranular corrosion resistance for heat exchanger tubing, furnace components, and marine exhaust systems. With PREN values exceeding 35, 446 offers pitting resistance comparable to duplex stainless steels while maintaining the thermal advantages of ferritic microstructure - including lower thermal expansion and better thermal conductivity than nickel-alloyed grades - making it particularly suitable for aggressive high-temperature applications where both corrosion resistance and thermal stability are critical.
