ASTM/ASME 444 Stainless Steel Pipes & Tubes are premium ferritic (UNS S44400) products conforming to ASTM A268 standards, featuring a dual-stabilized composition with 17.5-19.5% chromium, 1.75-2.5% molybdenum, and titanium/niobium additions for exceptional corrosion resistance (PREN ≥25). This high-performance ferritic grade offers pitting and crevice corrosion resistance comparable to 316L austenitic stainless in many environments, along with superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking and excellent durability in potable water systems up to 150°C (302°F). The alloy's optimized microstructure provides enhanced weldability and formability over conventional ferritic grades, making it particularly suitable for heat exchangers, water treatment equipment, and coastal applications where chloride resistance and cost efficiency are critical. With its nickel-free composition, 444 delivers better thermal conductivity and lower thermal expansion than austenitic grades while maintaining excellent resistance to microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) - an ideal solution for demanding aqueous applications requiring long-term performance at reduced life-cycle costs.
