ASTM/ASME 430 Stainless Steel Pipes & Tubes are general-purpose ferritic (UNS S43000) products conforming to ASTM A268 standards, featuring a chromium-rich (16-18%) composition that provides good corrosion resistance in mildly corrosive environments and excellent oxidation resistance up to 815°C (1500°F). This cost-effective ferritic grade offers superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking compared to austenitic stainless steels, along with better thermal conductivity and lower thermal expansion characteristics, making it particularly suitable for heat exchangers, furnace components, automotive trim, and architectural applications where moderate corrosion resistance and thermal stability are required. While not recommended for severe corrosive conditions or sub-zero temperatures due to reduced toughness, 430 stainless steel provides an economical alternative for applications requiring chromium stainless properties without nickel content, with proper forming and welding techniques to maintain its corrosion-resistant properties.
